[Tucson, AZ] Do not adopt a pet to this person! Her name is Becky (I’m working on getting a last name).
Tuesday night, Feb. 19th, Anna and I were at PACC picking up rescue kitties. There was someone ahead of us so we were waiting in the intake lobby. While we were there, we witnessed a woman and her daughter come into the lobby with a very small and obviously scared kitten. At first I thought they might have caught a feral kitten and were turning it in. To my shock, based on their complete lack of any emotion or compassion, this was their own pet, adopted from a local rescue through the Grant/Swan Petsmart. Then the woman tells the intake staff that she wants her kitten put to death. :( Still no emotion from either mom or daughter. They say she has become wild and aggressive towards them. The cat had not bitten anyone in the last 10 days, so the staff member asked if they might allow a rescue to try and rehabilitate the kitten rather than put it to death. The woman told them she would have to think about it. Then she proceeded to sit and scowl for about 5 minutes and then finally agreed to allow them to put the kitten up for rescue.
This woman left and we immediately contacted both rescues we know who work out of that Petsmart. In the next 48 hours we were able to get the kitten out and into a rehabilitative home. The kitten is safe.
The story continues, though. Today, just a few days later, as I was helping get things set up at that same Petsmart for adoptions, this woman and her daughter come bouncing in to look at adopting a kitten. :O They were cheerful and excited, there was nothing in their demeanor that resembled the two I had seen just a few days earlier. I immediately notified every rescue affiliated person in the store. This woman lied to every person she spoke with that day, claiming to have never owned a cat before. She wants to adopt another kitten. She was denied today, but the rescue people she spoke to are certain that she will try another rescue until she gets the kitten she wants.
PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH EVERY RESCUE YOU KNOW! DO NOT LET THIS WOMAN ADOPT ANOTHER KITTEN!

Beautiful Mary was sitting quietly in her kennel watching me and willing me to take her out. No problem Miss Mary - the first thing she did when I leashed her was stand up to give me a hug and a kiss (love affectionate dogs), and then as soon as we were outside she relieved herself indicating she might be housetrained. Mary is super friendly with a constantly wagging tail and desire to make friends with everyone she sees. She is small and compact and oh so huggable. Mary was a little dirty so I gave her a sponge bath. Other than her wagging tail and attempts to kiss me as I wiped her down she stood there quietly as I lifted her legs, rubbed her belly down, basically touched her all over. After her ‘bath’ we went for a walk to the park. She pulls slightly on the leash but is very manageable. Mary seems to like other dogs, tail wagging appropriately as those we met. She posed for her photos like a pro, sitting when I asked her to and taking treats nicely. Mary defines “lover girl”. She is highly affectionate and ready for a home where she can snuggle with her new person forever. Ask to meet Mary today.

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff’s time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a “fake adoption” hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.
For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates… the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.
Those of you who live in or around Multnomah County Oregon, so all of you in portland and clakamas and such, dogs at the Multnomah county shelter are only 25$!! And cats are only 15 (I believe, I don’t work with the cats :P). That is way cheaper than normal so take advantage!!

Rescue Me Ohio! Dayton, Oh: Bloody, mangy, flea infested colby pit female desperately needs FOSTER & DONATIONS ASAP. Star was found begging for help outside a bar in Northridge. Luckily someone took her home but they can not keep her. She can only stay for a few days. She needs to be separated from other pets while being treated. Her nails were curved completely around her feet and INTO the pads of her feet. Shes lived like this for months at least, if not years. Her pads are swollen and infected. She tore open a wound scratching her itchy skin on her face. Shes shy but gentle & loving. She shakes allot but shows no aggression. PLEASE CALL, TEXT, OR EMAIL IF YOU CAN FOSTER HER. Sweet Chow Family in Need of a Home! →

Orlando FL - This was too much. The owner of these dogs died and they are sitting in the corner of the kennel mourning, not moving. Just sitting there. If anyone knows any Chow rescues. PLEASE share with them. There are 6 of them at the shelter but I think the 2 small ones were adopted. There are 4 Chows there that belonged to the person that died. At Orange County Animal Services.

Calling Yucca Valley People! Please help us locate our missing dog! Her name is Braille and she is completely BLIND. Large mixed breed, appx. 80 lbs., mostly white with black markings on face and saddle area, tan down front leg. Braille has a curly tail and, typically, she carries one ear up while the other flopped down. • She has been missing now for several weeks but our family is heartbroken and we continue to search!!! • At the time she went missing, Braille was wearing a red collar with name tag, Town of Yucca Valley license and a purple tag noting that she is microchipped.

Siiaan is a very famous dog. He has been to the shelter many times for treatment over the past 4 years, but now he looks like staying as a resident. One of our dog catchers (Khun Nok) tells us the story of Siiaan….
When Siian was about 1 year old, he was lying by the road when a minibus coming out of a hotel and ran over his face. The manager of the hotel took him to the vets, but the damage to his face was severe and they could not do anything to fix it. The manager was a nice man and said Siiaan could live in the hotel for the rest of his life, but Siiaan thought different.

He used to go to the beach during the day and only returned to the hotel for the night. He was after all a street dog and enjoyed his freedom. Siiaan was a regular at the soidog shelter for many years for skin treatment and infections.
The last time he came his skin was really bad and never really got back to normal so Soi dog decided to keep him and see if he is happy here. Luckily it looks like Siiaan is enjoying shelter life. He gets regular meals, veterinary care and cuddles from volunteers. He is a lovely, friendly dog and is settling in well and ok with other dogs so he’ll spend the rest of his time with us! He adores the ladies and tummy rubs too!
